Citizenship through immigration<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main way for people to gain Israeli citizenship is through immigration. Israel\u2019s citizenship rules revolve around the 1950 Law of Return, which allows Jews and children and grandchildren of Jews to obtain citizenship relatively quickly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you seek to immigrate to Israel on the basis of your Jewish ancestry, and you are already in Israel as a tourist on a B\/2 visa, see this article <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/aliyah-to-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">addressing how you can do so<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Citizenship through birth\/adoption<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any child that is born to an Israeli parent (mother or father) is entitled to Israeli citizenship by birth, which is determined by the Israeli Nationality Law. At the same time, this can be complicated if the child\u2019s parents were neither married nor living together at the time of the child\u2019s birth. In these cases, the Israeli Ministry of Interior will likely demand more evidence if, for example, the father is Israeli and the mother is not. Citizenship through naturalization<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/israeli-citizenship-for-residents-of-east-jerusalem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Permanent residents of Israel<\/a> who are not citizens can <a href=\"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/israeli-citizenship-for-permanent-residents-aged-18-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obtain citizenship through naturalization<\/a> if: 1) they live in Israel, 2) they can prove their center of life is in Israel (i.e., living in the country for the past 3 out of 5 years), 3) are recognized as permanent residents of Israel, 4) live or wish to settle in Israel, 5) know some Hebrew, and 6) renounce previous nationalities when they become an Israeli citizen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><em>4. Citizenship through marriage<\/em><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a foreign citizen, including non-Jews, is married to an Israeli citizen, they are permitted to apply for citizenship under a naturalization process. This citizenship is gradually granted to the foreigner over a five year (at minimum) process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a Jewish person wishes to make aliyah with a non-Jewish spouse, they are permitted to do so. Israeli courts have also ruled in favor of couples who are not legally married but who have lived together as husband and wife, granting permanent residency to the non-Israeli.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><strong><em>5. Citizenship through a Ministry of Interior decision<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Israeli Minister of Interior is permitted to grant Israeli citizenship to Israeli permanent residents and\/or their immediate family members.
